We are going to the lake with my in-laws this weekend for Labor Day! The weather is supposed to be great, the water warm, and there is a karaoke machine just waiting to start a party. I am not too big on karaoke given the fact that I missed the pop scene through most of the ’80’s and half of the ’90’s (see why here 🙂 ), so don’t know a lot of the songs everyone else knows. Ha! I can usually find a country song here and there, though, so I just cheer the other singers on and wait for a Pam Tillis or Miranda Lambert song to come on. Jacob’s family is made up of singers and dancers, too, and they haven’t all been in the same room karaoke-ing yet, so the competition should be fierce! And hilarious. I can’t wait.
All that said, I’ve been thinking I need to make it in for a pedicure before heading to the lake. It’s been a while since these ol’ reptile claws have been smoothed down! I mean, I was raised in the mountains and don’t prefer too many frills or froo-froo extras, but, I am still a girl. What girl doesn’t want to be seen as pretty and well put together and have pretty toes? But beauty routines can get pricey – especially mani-pedis – so I have found a few routines that cut my beauty costs down a bit! There is one trick that I have found that you need to know if you ever do your own pedicures.
Get ready for it…..here it is: Whitening Mouthwash. Any brand.
Pour about 3/4 cup of the mouthwash into warm water in large bowl or foot soaker with a few inches of water in it. I have a foot soaker that bubbles. I left it on while I left the room for 30 seconds one time and came back to 3 feet of bubbles from the mouthwash! So now you’ve had fair warning, in case you’re using a foot soaker. 🙂
The cruddy stuff on your heels and bottoms of your feet will file right off after about 10 minutes of a soak in this potion! After filing my heels and nails I douse my feet in coconut oil for about 5 minutes. Then use the polish remover to clean the oil off the surface of your nails so the polish will adhere well.
Paint your toes, while watching an episode of Gilmore Girls or House Hunters International of The Mind of a Chef or something. You need the tv to help to pass the drying time between coats! 🙂
Once they are dried and ready, slather vaseline on the bottoms of your feet and put some old socks on.
Watch another episode or two of your show and unveil those baby soft feet you were born with! 😉
I am ready for the lake!! My toes and feet are done, the car is full of fuel, and Jacob will be home soon to drive down and meet the fam. I hope you guys have an amazing long weekend, and have some delicious food and friend/family time on Monday!!
