My sister and I are great friends. We laugh and cry and all-of-that-stuff-in-the-Hallmark-cards together. She is a gem, and since we don’t get to see each other as much as we should, especially given that we live in the same town, we penciled in a Saturday to spend together and catch up!
It turned out that in Lexington, Kentucky there was a food show happening that particular day, and Lexington is only 3 hours away! So, since we both love food and travel and autumn, we decided to go for a drive and hit up the Kentucky Proud Incredible Food Show for our day together.
We decided to get an early start, so were on our way by 7:30…Dunkin’ Donuts and all!
After an hour or so, we decided we could take a little extra time getting there, and found out that The Woodford Reserve Distillery was right on the way. I have been before, and loved it – Kate had never been.
We hopped back in the car to drive the rest of the way to Lexington through all the horse farms and beautiful fall trees.
We made it to the show just in time to see Carla Hall’s set. She was funny and warm and happy and fantastic. If you ever get a chance to see her, you would not regret it!
We walked around the show a bit afterwards, and saw lots of sorghum, popcorn and sweet wine. It is Kentucky, after all. Out of everything, though, the macaron shop was my favorite. They had an earl grey flavor to die for! And, of course, I can’t remember the name of the shop. Oops.
Anyhoo, we decided to head back to Nashville before it got dark and have dinner at Two Ten Jack, an East Nashville ramen house we have been wanting to try.
Such a great day trip! I have to say that one of my favorite things about Nashville is that it is so close to Kentucky for a quick get-out-of-town day. And there is no one I’d rather have done that with than my beautiful sis.
Love you, Kate! We will definitely do it again. Maybe next time for a Keeneland Race!!! Anyone want to join?
Live, love, laugh and be happy, guys! 🙂
